Miu Miu Spring 2010

Miu Miu was launched in 1992 by Miuccia Prada under the Italian fashion house, Prada. The line was named after Miuccia’s nickname and is positioned as a more affordable clothing line, targeted to a younger consumer. Although Miu Miu’s collection usually has more flowing shapes and earthy tones than its mother line, it stays true to the quality of Prada by sticking with simple designs and a classic look. Miu Miu’s line now consists of clothing, shoes and handbags, etc.
American model Lindsey Wixson is the new face for Miu Miu's Spring 2010 collection following many famous faces including Katie Holmes in Spring/Summer 09, Kirsten Dunst in 2008, Lindsay Lohan, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
The collection for Spring/Summer 2010 is very quirky with animal prints of cats, flowers, and birds on high-wasted mini dresses and pant suits with puffy sleeves and chunky printed shoes. One print even looks like the outline of a reclining naked woman. The collection also features beading details, especially around the bust, and cutouts that bare the chest and mid-section.

Some critics said the designs were too sensual and sexy for the younger girls this line is marketed towards, but lets be realistic...the designs are not so scandalous compared to what younger women are wearing these days. I am in my early 20's, still considered very young, and I would have no problem wearing any of these designs...even some of the sheer pieces that were noted to be hard sellers were among some of my favorites. The cutouts only show a hint of skin...the entire stomach is not exposed and the chest cutouts are above the natural breast line showing little or no cleavage. I think this should hardly even be compared to suggestive based on the low-cut V-necks I see teens wearing. At first glance the print of the nude girl is not even noticed, because Miuccia paired the print with a high-waisted skirt and button down blouse, making the outfit as a whole look classy.

I love this line. I think the designs are pretty and cute. Yes, some are a little flesh baring, but I think it makes the designs fresh and fun. Without the "suggestive" detailing the line would look too strict, rigid, and "Catholic School Girl". Plus, I like the contradiction of the designs paired with the sweet, innocent prints.

OH, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoes. I always do. Miu Miu shoes are always my favorite.

ETRO & Spring 2010

While browsing through the latest fashion magazines, it is easy to tell that this coming season is going to be filled with ornate patterns, prints, and bright colors. I loved so many different spring 2010 lines!! Among some of my favs were Proenza Schouler, Lanvin, and Versace (I plan on doing a little snippet for all of these). However, this week I decided to focus on Etro and the designer’s staple, but yet ever-changing, paisley print (I am on this "BoHo" kick right now because of a new concept at Forever21....Etro reminded me of the new section for some reason.

Etro S.p.A was established in 1968, originating from Gimmo Etro’s love for history and culture. At first, the designer kept his company more simple and sweet by using luxury fabrics (silk, cashmere, linen, and cotton) dyed in trendy colors. Then in 1981 the paisley design was first used. Variations of this print have been used ever since, making the paisley motif a key detail for the brand’s line each season.
Since the establishment of Etro’s clothing line, both women’s and men’s accessory lines have been launched.

Something that I found very interesting is that in the 1980’s when leather was on the rise, Etro took the popular paisley jacquard fabric and found a way to put a plastic coating on it to make it durable (very popular in luggage and handbags).
Also in the 80’s was the launch of the company’s home accessory line which was soon followed by perfumes and fragrances in 1989 and the designer’s ready-to-wear line in the nineties.

For Spring 2010, Etro continues to show off the family culture with the paisley symbol on satin and chiffon in purples, pale pinks, mauve, and taupe.

I love the design and styling of the first image in the second spread. I love the paisley printed pastel top with the slouchy, yet tailored shorts...the three buttons and the fun paisley, almost polka-dot, print at the bottom of the shorts add a great touch. I can't think of the word I am looking for right now....but I just love the whole ensemble.

I also like how the line is very feminine with a touch of menswear, and trendy elements such as the prints on top of prints, and the added khaki, cream, and grey shorts that almost look as if they are inspired by cargo pants.

Red One Fash-On?

Yay! I am so excited! This is my first fashion blog post EVER...I have had this blog for years now, but I used it for school projects and assignments. I never posted anything on my own terms. And since I never really used blogging that much in school, I am getting reacquainted with the site and all of its functions. But hopefully everyone who views this blog will not only look at the beginners layout template and unprofessional pictures, but will also take time to read my posts....Anyways, I am going to try and post up here a lot (starting when I get a new camera or get a memory card for my phone), but I might only get around to it once every month. I am horrible at updating things like this...Myspace, Twitter, and Facebook included...I just haven't seemed to have the time in the past. But now that I am out of school and have a full-time job and a weekly schedule, my new year's resolutions are:
-Start and Keep up this fashion blog
-Lose weight
-Eat healthy
-MOVE TO A BIGGER CITY!!!...get me out of Greensboro!

And so the blogging begins...

As I stated on my blog's tag line, this blog will be about fashion and other trends...but I think I decided I will add music and art that I like as well. I am not a "professional" artist or musician by any means, so I might use layman's terms when writing about a specific piece. Don't hate or get disgruntled by my naivety when it comes to specific terms. I don't need an elitist to leave a snide comment or correct me if I am wrong. I just want to write about things that I like and find interesting.

I also plan on posting a designer focus of the week. For this I will choose a designer, give their background and what they are famous for. Then I will show a few of their designs, and hopefully find some cheaper pieces that seem to be inspired by that particular week's designer.
